Have you been absorbed with the same things every day and find that your life has become rather monotonous and even dare I say it... boring? Have you been craving something new? Ever wonder why kids get obsessed with 1 toy for a day or two and then move on to the next best thing? Well turns out both of these things are related.
It's because your brain is a junky for the love of new things like Justin Timberlake said. Plus I want to offer you the thought that to be healthy as you mature you in fact SHOULD try something new every day. I'm not kidding! There's tons of research out there on the brain and how learning new skills and things in general help your brain grow and age well. Plus it might even help you form new great habits! (see articles at the end)
So this weekend I went to Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY with my walking shoes and my intention to learn new things. I'm happy to report I did it! Here's my list of what I learned, how I grew, and what new amazing habits I formed.
1. I ate homemade yogurt and peanut butter. Now I'm not a big fan of dairy - or shall I say my body isn't but I made an exception and wow it was delicious. Both were not only amazing to taste but healthy! I'm even thinking of making my own yogurt as I didn't have the usual side-effects that accompany dairy products. Go figure! :) So I learned that not only are homemade product delicious, and good for you, but they may in fact cause less physiological trouble because of less preservatives and additives.
2. Qi Gong for 3 mornings straight with my son was a beautiful experience. I have been doing this exercise on and off but now it's officially my favorite! Not only did it help me wake up because of the habit I acquired with the 7am sessions but it was fun and good for my body. I feel more agile, less stressed, and did I mention it keeps your spine healthy? A healthy spine is a healthy life. Ask all the yogi's out there ;-)
There happened to be Qi Gong workshop all weekend and I joined 1 where the teacher spoke of people getting healed from ailments like chronic pains and scoliosis. I personally definitely felt an overall body improvement and more deeply engrained flow in my body, thinking and life. Plus the energy as we moved synchronistically with a positive higher purposes was invigorating. Try some animal Qi Gong or frolics movements. It was so funny and fun to act like an animal and improve my body at the same time! My son loved it too!
3. 2 words. Laughter Yoga. Has anyone even heard of that? It was incredibly funny and surprisingly hard. The words fake it till ya make it started this session off as we pushed ourselves to laugh in 15-20 different ways with each other, alone, standing up, sitting or laying down, and in all kinds of acted out scenes. I believe I got the heartiest laugh when we all laid down next to each other and heard each other laugh. Did you know laughter is incredibly infectious! Imagine doing that with a group for a good 10 min! And by the way Laughing 100 times is the equivalent to 10 minutes on the rowing machine or 15 minutes on an exercise bike!
Soooo pop in a funny movie and have at it! You'll feel better, and you'll have gotten some exercise in.
4. I received a Shamanic Healing session. What the heck is that you might ask? Well it's an other worldy experience where you can get healed on a spiritual level and even receive message from guides, and the invisible world. In the end it was a spiritual coaching session coupled with messages to help move my life along. Quite amazing and useful in helping me process scenarios in my life that had me either stuck or overwhelmed.
What I continually learn with coaching and healing experiences is that they all contribute to the betterment of your life if you can truly open yourself up, take what you need and find the threads that tie things together.
What I ultimately felt as I explored and opened myself up to these beautiful experiences is that my brain jumped for joy every single time, I connected more deeply with myself and even the environment with people around me. And mostly importantly I continued to learn and grow. As Tony Robbins says if you're not growing you're dying which is why as we mature, it's VERY important to continue feeding not only your brain but your soul.
I hope to keep growing, and maybe even meet some of YOU along the way... :)

I like to call V-day and as may days as possible a self-love day because we spend so much time/money/energy on gifts, food, etc for others yet we don't show ourselves enough love day to day. I know I'm preaching to some mother's, wives, lovers, friends out there. I am one too and certainly not perfect at this but how about choosing a day where you pamper the heck out of yourself and truly show you how much you can <3!
So here's the thing...
You can't give that which you don't have. If you show yourself how much you can express to yourself and give to yourself then inevitably you will FILL yourself with all you need so that then your cup spills over and now you can give that to others. These quotes from Iyanla Vanzant resonated with me so much and changed me forever because she is so right! Here's a link to the the full segment with Oprah where she discusses it: Iyanla Vanzant on Oprah's LifeClass
It's self-full to be first, to be as good as possible to you, to take care of you, to keep you whole and healthy. That doesn't mean you disregard everything and everyone, but you want to come with your cup full. My cup runneth over. What comes out of the cup is for you all, what's in the cup is mine. - Iyanla Vanzant
When you start sacrificing yourself for other people, you make them a thief because they are stealing from you what you need and they don't even know it. - Iyanla Vanzant
So the questions now are:
Are you? Yes! Now is the time to truly and completely love yourself and be your most authentic self and live your most authentic life.
<3 <3 Big Love <3<3
::What I do to stay consistent::
Whenever, wherever possible I leave things out for myself that remind me to get it done. Trust me we all fall off the wagon. I'm back on it day #4. For example I jump and do weights on my trampoline. Amazing way to workout without serious joint impact, while improving circulation and lymphatic system. I leave it out everyday so I see it and get reminded.
I do the same with meditation and leave out my lil meditating frog in the bathroom. And I also set timers for myself at 11:11, 1:11, etc. so I know to take a 5min break or meditate.
I also have a quote in the bathroom that says "you woke up like this #flawless" so I can give myself love every morning.
The key is to leave msgs for yourself, whether physical evidence, a reminder note, a phone calendar event, a timer, whatever it takes!
Give yourself chances to succeed! As many as you need! Got it? Be almost obsessed like Jon Jones with your own life. Now go get em!
Does any of this sound familiar?
Tell me if you are familiar with this scenario. You get pumped. Set goals:
- Exercise 3-4 times a week. Check.
- Stop spending so much on unnecessary things. Check.
- Start treating your crazy brother better. Check.
- You decide this year is the year you'll save for that trip on your bucket list. Check.
After a month or 3 (that's the average), everything you've thought you wanted takes a back seat. It's no coincidences most business spike up in profit the first few months of the year just to go back down. Yeah no thanks. I just don't do resolutions.
Even the word itself has an undertone of having to fix something that you broke and you resolve to either not do that again or start over with something else. I just can't live with that kind of negative emotion and pressure to start off my year. Can you?
So instead I do consistent planning throughout the year. All this mean is I feel out what is it I want to concentrate onin the various areas of my life (spirit, health, wealth, & relationships) for either long term (year(s)) or short term (1-3 months) and set some positive goals that I feel in my gut with some good ol fashioned VISUALIZATION. (see my Free Starter Kit that includes a lake side visualization)
PLUS here's the important part for you 'resolution starters'... I don't wait! I start it before the new year and throughout the year. So if I want to bring yoga into my life in November- I don't sulk in the misery of my failed attempts in the past and why i should fix it this next year. I think of the feeling it gives me when I get on that mat and do the cross nostril breathing and ohm sounding. Ohhmm... can you feel it already? I can.
Imagine a world where you can focus on the positive feelings your goals will give you, rather than making goals to fix something you've done inevitably to yourself. No thanks!
And guess what? It' s not too late now or ever too late to do some post planning now that it's already 2017. It's just never too late to feel good about things you want to do for yourself and others! EVER! Start now :)

It's been incredible to watch this election. The range of emotions that has been in the veins of this process has been like a drama show on tv. And now that it's over so many people shed tears, celebrated or felt some peace at the fact that it was finally over.
How are you feeling?
I'm personally celebrating it's over and that we can move on. You see I realized that ultimately it's up to you to determine what the outcome of YOUR life is after this election. No man, woman or other has that power. They may be able to control high level elements of your environment, but at the end of the day isn't it what you do with what ya got?
In the The Ted Talk "the happy secret to better work", Shawn Anchor says:“It’s not necessarily reality that shapes us but the lens through which your brain views the world that shapes your reality. IF we can change the lens not only can we change your happiness we can change every single education and business outcome at the same time.” - Shawn Achor
There's a story I like to tell that I heard years ago about how the children of India are the happiest. Why? Because they revel at any small thing that is given to them or that they see in their lives and appreciate even the sunrise every morning. Give them a fresh banana and watch them light up because many of the poor have to rummage through garbage to have even a spoiled quarter of banana. It's all relative. See what I'm getting at?
People have often been called entitled in this country. That they want everything their way or its the highway. Yes indeed there are many like this. And now in the wake of the results how are you going to lead your life. Will you expect things to be thrown on your lap, will you expect things 'your way, right away' as the slogan goes. Will you expect the opposite and for your life to be controlled and pushed downhill by the elected or your boss or other people in your life?
OR will you get up, put your big lady/man pants on and Go get it?
That's what this election has taught me. That no matter who's in charge, I AM in fact in charge of my life. That no matter what decisions around me are made, I AM the one who controls how I take things and what I do with it and where my life goes. I AM.
I have never been MORE motivated to take action to live my most authentic life than now. I have never been MORE excited for the outcome of the next 4 years. For 1, I just don't see this authority lasting very long in a world where people are shifting so rapidly and taking off that veil of victimhood. The new president is merely a mirror of what we think we need... someone who speaks their mind (no matter how crazy), takes control (no matter how erratic), and takes a drastic stand (no matter how far fetched). It's what we want for our own lives right? But we don't need to be a saved by any leader.
WE can save our own damn selves!
I've had 3 major pivot points in my life where I had a choice. I could let depression, vampire people, and environmental factors control what my life's outcome would be. OR I could follow my soul, my intuition, my powerful self and take a stand. Most are run by fear, and most time the fears don't come true. I took the stand. Will you?
I URGE YOU, to see yourself, your life and how you are living it right now. Stop giving away your power, stop blaming others, stop blaming circumstances, stop giving away your God-given strength. I for one am NOT standing by the wayside and watching the world crumble. NO. We have so much we can do to help ourselves, our communities, and our environment. I'm watching the leaders who can talk about that NOW. I'm finding my tribe that can unite now. I'm looking for those that can truly take this and run to make our lives better and not sink into despair. I'm committed. You with me?
OWN IT. OWN your power.
Your Inner Bliss Coach,
Want to work with me on owning your power? Learn about my Authentic Inner Bliss Program and get started on your authentic path NOW.
You can now choose to think differently, think positively, or worst case think of something else until you can come back to that topic with a more open mind. The point is to refocus on something that will change your mindset. A new way of seeing things and feeling. Don't concentrate on what's past, that will just make you nostalgic and sad, focus on the now where you have the most opportunity to make a change and take steps.
I remember a few years back, I had reached the point where I was sick of not having a car and having to borrow one all the time. It got to the breaking point where I'd had it! So what did I do? I refocused all that energy that could have been used for anger at others, at myself and at the situation. I used it to promise myself that within a week I'd have a new car. And here's the key, i focused all my energy on it. Every drop went into then searching and figuring out ways to get it and also allowing things to open up for me.
Guess what happened?
I got my car in 3 days! Saturday I looked at cars and found the one I envisioned - Yes envisioned - Sunday I signed the paperwork, Monday I went to the DMV and got my plates. BAM, best decision I've made time and time again is to refocus my thoughts and energy on what I truly wanted!
Anything is possible if you ask for it and focus on it!

Your Coach, Teany
Sometimes you choose goals for yourself that are in conflict with your mission, and sometimes you have internal beliefs that are in conflict with both. I recently experienced this as I was planning on growth for my business. Holy cow what a huge shift I experienced as I began to process how to get my mission, goals and beliefs all in sync. The struggle is real y'all but not impossible. Never that.
The thing is..
Sometimes you're standing in the middle of the storm and don't see that the outer rim is a few feet away. My coach was fantastic at showing me where that blind spot was so that I could expand and plan for bigger and more badass things for my future and the people I would be helping.
But imagine if we didn't have these moments of struggle, coupled with moments of temporary ignorance. Those eventually catapult us through the road less traveled and even more brilliant ideas and dreams than we ever imagined. We would miss out on a lot of valuable lessons right? The kind of lessons that ground us and show us how resilient we are and resourceful we can be.
As you begin your quest don't forget to pack a few things in your arsenal:
1. Trust your gut.
It has never failed me and if I have "failed" it's because I didn't listen to it. We often ignore our instinct because we don't trust ourselves but I'm hear to tell you to listen to that voice in your head. And by the way it's never really "failure" anyway because all of those moments are a lessons to be learned.
2. Lead with your heart.
Follow what your heart is guiding you to do. Aka whatever the 'next best thing' is. People get overwhelmed by this 'follow your passion' thing but how about we follow whatever that next best thing is which just might lead you to your passion. This goes along with following your gut. Often it's most felt in your emotions and lately I've been on a mission to trust those feeling to take me where I need to go. From business to relationships. Abraham Hicks asks us to use our emotions as our guide in anything we do and it makes sense. If you can't feel positive about something don't do it or get yourself in a good feeling place first. Simple.
3. Remove what doesn't serve you.
Ok this is the part where you sit with yourself and say "[your name] where is there baggage in my life? What is truly preventing me for reaching my dreams?" That could be people, or beliefs, or maybe just consider where you are concentrating your energy. Ask yourself... are you passionate about it, is it of value to you, is it lucrative and is it serving you and/or others the way you want it to? I literally created a spreadsheet on this to help me organize and spearhead a direction. Need help with this? Contact me.
4. Leave plenty of room for yourself.
We are not robots. Even thought many wish we were. We all get 24 hours and have to make use of it. But that doesn't mean that you should cram 10 million projects in it. Trust me I was the queen of the busyness syndrome and sometimes still need to hone back. I have learned over difficult lessons that you have to make room for down time and relaxation and self-care aside from all the good things you want to do. It's hard to pick up that pina colada sometimes, but hey someone's gotta do it ;-)
5. There is no end goal.
Yes there are goals and those may have timelines but those just lead you to other goals, and other roads. AKA your life will be filled with many. So how about we enjoy the journey, get things done, and continue enjoying it along the way. Keep following your heart and gut and be lead to do the things that truly bring you joy. There is no end, only new beginnings.

It was in 2008 when I discovered the world of holistic health... stop me if you've heard this story but I actually bless the day my back started hurting due to work because it's the day I met my chiropractor. No it's not a love affair perse... its a holistic love affair with wellness that began. It was painful, it was nerve crazy, it cracked, yep my chiropractor adjusted me to fix brachial plexus pain and cervical subluxation. In other words I had been carrying my heavy laptop bag for so long my neck and shoulder were swerving to the right cramping my nerves... OUCH! What would've hurt more is if I had continued that crazy route without receiving any treatment. Look I have nothing against Western medicine, it has its place, but there's no way anything but surgery and pain killers would've fixed it if it hadn't been for my chiro.
So there you have it... he fixed me alright!
He fixed my shoulder so well that I had to ask 10 million questions on how he did and how I can do the same thing at home. Yep I'm a DIY type girl but I knew I'd have to get some degree or schooling to truly become understand it. And thanks to his patience I learned a heck of lot about my own body and he even inspired me to pursue a career in it. Turns out massage and coaching were my cup of tea and I went in head first, never looking back.
What I learned in these last 7 years since then astounded me!
I've taken steps to add more holistic medicines, practices and practitioners into my realm of healing because I knew in my bones (no pun intended) that the chiro was on to something and so I experimented. Here's how it turned out:
Experiment #1- 3 day cleanse
I had done several 1 day cleanses but this past year I took the plunge and did a 3 day and WOW what an amazing experience. I learned:
1- My body can get used to living off juices and not crave food as much. No kidding!
2- My body had become allergic to foods over the years and it came to light as I reintroduced cheese products, certain vegetables, and certain spices. I immediately noticed a reaction as soon as that day because my body had become so clean that anything that it didn't agree with it rejected and turned into a pimple, stomach ache or other equally unpleasant reaction. Try it... carefully of course!
My cleanse of choice - www.blueprintcleanse.com
Experiment #2 - Exercise combos
I'd been an athlete as a kid but had fallen off the wagon now and again since then. Finally I decided to do something more interesting and add a trampoline with a fun addition to my workouts. I learned:
1- Combinations with music, youtube audios ROCK! It keeps me listening and enjoying the experience so much more. So with whatever workout you do make sure you combine it with something or someone you love to make the experiences 2 or 3x more fun!
2- It improved my blood pressure, lymphatic and circulatory system, and my legs and abs have never looked so GOOD! Take that Tina Turner!
My trampoline of choice -
Experiment #3: Natural pain release
Yes there's nothing wrong with the occasional ibuprofen or NSAID, but there's nothing like natural pain release to make a more permanent change. I started practicing what I call "Somatic Healing with Intentional Focus Technique" (SHIFT)... it's basics involve focusing on the area of pain, and holding the intention to release it which is most often emotional or experiential. I would literally feel my body release that point via emotions or energy moving through and away from that point making it feel way better! I learned:
1- I tried this with a consistent pain I'd been having on my right lower back and it may be slightly achy at worst these days. Next step, practicing it a few times in the same location to remove it completely.
2- It helped me realize that often chronic pain is emotional or becomes so because of the difficult to resist mental focus on it. Humans are notorious for focusing on the neg but the good news is we can change that!
Experiment #4: Natural emotional release
Again there's nothing wrong with seeing a therapist or coach for that matter ;-) But what if you can learn how to release some of the emotional blocks yourself and be in a happier state more consistently? (thanks Abraham Hicks) I was watching an interview on Oprah with Pema Chodron and she talked aboutcompassionate abiding which in essence is the emotional reframed approach of SHIFT. It involves feeling the emotional pain and then locating where it's connected to your body. Then letting the emotions move through you without resisting it. I learned:
1 - It works just as well as SHIFT does because the intention is the same - release - whether emotional or physical at first.
2 - The feeling of the release leaves such a peace and happiness that it makes you wonder why we ever live with pain for very long at all!
These 4 experiments of changing or incorporating some daily habits and being consistent at it has been soooo seeded in my being that NOW my first question when working through any physical/emotional need is how can I handle this holistically. I recommend you try these out and if you have any questions please feel free to comment, private inbox me, or call me 202.630.7263. Let's share our experiences!
Yours in holistic healing,
For those of you who have been following my posts you probably know I'm a big, ok HUGE fan of meditation. It's helped me in so many ways throughout my life starting when i was in college and I needed to relax to remember my lines for a song on a stage in front of 100's (YIKES) to now as an adult in moments when work or life starts to stress me out.
So what you don't know is that I just started teaching my son how to meditate. Yes believe it or not you can start as early as 4 years old. It all depends on the maturity of your child but then again it's a skill that can be learned as soon as they understand basic language.
Sufficed to say I was shocked to learn that his after school program and day care program had already taught him some meditation in the yoga part of the classes. HOT DOG! He was already prepped for me when i started him off.
So here's the key... IMO.
I'll give you sites and options for apps you can download for kids but for my son nothing beat the sound of mommies voice soothing and calming him into a state of relaxation. I use a simple mindfulness app with bells to time up to 3 minutes of meditation to get him started. The bells rings every minute and I take him through a guided breathing and relaxation of every part of his body.
Guess what happened?
He fell asleep faster and seemed overall calmer! Double HOT DIGGITY DOG! And did you read that Dalai Lama quote? Yes, can you imagine if every child learned meditation and was able to soothe and calm themselves? What an amazingly relaxed and more peaceful world we'd live in.
So your challenge is...
Teach your children the basics of meditation. If you don't know some guided words I can send you a basic one. E-mail me @ email@example.com. E-Book soon to come! And watch as your child relaxes more and more every day. Make it part of your bedtime routine and you'll see how not only do you bond but he/she will associate peace, calm and love with you - the parent and first guide in this sometimes chaotic world. What a beautiful thought... :-)
I just downloaded the My Light Shines Bright App for my kiddo... message me and comment so we can share stories!
Yours in peace and calm,
