Someone once told me it’s not about your moments of sadness, or low energy, we all get those… it’s about where you live consistently.
So what does that mean?
As this new year starts we all go through some method of making resolutions, setting goals, or just making plans. I’d love to offer you an additionally element that you can practice through your goals setting, planning and fun living, and that’s emotion checking.
Yes, emotion checking. It means check yourself before you literally wreck yourself as the song says. Everyday we experience things that may affect the way you feel emotionally at any given time. The question to you is where do you want to live in those emotions? Do want to continue to let everything affect you negatively and feel sad or angry day to day? Probably not so let’s get started on watching where you tend to go with your emotional regularly.
Whenever you go through something start with the first step of pausing before you take any reaction/step about it. 1 moment of pausing can make a world of difference on how you resolve a situation. It can be your personal meditation to react by means of non-reaction in that second. It gives you not only time to assess what’s really truly happening but more importantly it reprograms your body to not be in constant reaction to everything happening around you.
Think to yourself what does this really mean to me, how would I normally respond and if you want to change how you react say ‘RESET’ to yourself. Reset your mental/emotional state. I always tell myself to reset to start from 0 emotion and say it’s not that serious. Now is the opportunity to change your outcome.
Then it’s really seeing what the positive silver lining is for those that are ready to see it. Oprah says there is no opportunity that is wasted unless you waste that opportunity. Take every chance that you can to see the good or the God as some say in everything that happens. There really is one if you choose to find it.
Doing these consistently will give you emotional vitality and stamina to be in any situation and it will teach you to live in the higher spectrum of emotions more often. Wish I knew this when I was a teen! :-)
