For those of you who have been following my posts you probably know I'm a big, ok HUGE fan of meditation. It's helped me in so many ways throughout my life starting when i was in college and I needed to relax to remember my lines for a song on a stage in front of 100's (YIKES) to now as an adult in moments when work or life starts to stress me out.
So what you don't know is that I just started teaching my son how to meditate. Yes believe it or not you can start as early as 4 years old. It all depends on the maturity of your child but then again it's a skill that can be learned as soon as they understand basic language.
Sufficed to say I was shocked to learn that his after school program and day care program had already taught him some meditation in the yoga part of the classes. HOT DOG! He was already prepped for me when i started him off.
So here's the key... IMO.
I'll give you sites and options for apps you can download for kids but for my son nothing beat the sound of mommies voice soothing and calming him into a state of relaxation. I use a simple mindfulness app with bells to time up to 3 minutes of meditation to get him started. The bells rings every minute and I take him through a guided breathing and relaxation of every part of his body.
Guess what happened?
He fell asleep faster and seemed overall calmer! Double HOT DIGGITY DOG! And did you read that Dalai Lama quote? Yes, can you imagine if every child learned meditation and was able to soothe and calm themselves? What an amazingly relaxed and more peaceful world we'd live in.
So your challenge is...
Teach your children the basics of meditation. If you don't know some guided words I can send you a basic one. E-mail me @ email@example.com. E-Book soon to come! And watch as your child relaxes more and more every day. Make it part of your bedtime routine and you'll see how not only do you bond but he/she will associate peace, calm and love with you - the parent and first guide in this sometimes chaotic world. What a beautiful thought... :-)
I just downloaded the My Light Shines Bright App for my kiddo... message me and comment so we can share stories!
Yours in peace and calm,
